Applied Optimisation Across Supply Chain and Industry
The sessions covered a wide span of applied optimisation: multi-horizon production planning across rough cut capacity planning, master production scheduling and detailed scheduling; raw material blending across interconnected steel processes; train traffic, crew link and locomotive optimisation on one of the world’s largest rail networks; and market clearing in energy exchanges. Gurobi also set out its direction beyond the solver, with AI assisted modelling, model validation and explainability tooling.
From Mathematical Results to Business Decisions
One theme ran through nearly every conversation. The organisations in the room were not short of optimisation capability. What they lacked was a way to move quickly from a mathematical result to a business decision. Planners described the same constraints repeatedly: producing a feasible plan takes too long when constraints interact, evaluating alternatives before committing is difficult, and understanding why a plan cannot be built at all remains largely manual. Spreadsheets were still the working method in several highly sophisticated environments.
